Old Absinthe Distilleries: Road Trip 2008

It is already a while ago, but never forgetting the good old days is sort of our lifestyle. In the following paragraphs, you can read some info about our legendary Absinthe road trips to old Absinthe distilleries in Fougerolles, France. Enjoy reading!

Old Absinthe Distilleries

We write the year 2008… Besides Pontarlier, the French town of Fougerolles was one of the Absinthe hubs in the 19th century. We visited some of the old Absinthe distilleries, in some cases the buildings still existed, in other cases we just were able to look at the place where it once stood. Our guide was an old map of the city of Fougerolles, which listed the old absinthe distilleries. A few of them, like Paul Devoille, Lemercier and Coulin are still producing Absinthe. It is fascinating to see some evidence of the past, for example the old warehouse of the Lemercier Absinthe distillery is just fascinating. Nothing has changed in the last 100 years…
